In a powerful display of solidarity and shared determination, Kenyans and like-minded individuals gathered in Kisumu on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, to participate in the nationwide anti-femicide campaign. The alarming surge in femicide cases over the past few weeks has ignited a passionate call for justice, accountability, and a collective stand against gender-based violence. The statistics, as reported by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, are both shocking and heartbreaking – in 2022 alone, approximately 725 women and girls fell victim to femicide in Kenya.
As a united front, we demand justice for the lives lost and pledge to continue our efforts to hold perpetrators accountable through prosecution. Behind every statistic is a human life, a story, and a future cut short. As we continue to call for justice, let us also remember and honor the victims. Their stories must not be forgotten, and their memories should serve as a catalyst for change.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families affected and assure them that their pain will not be in vain. The fight against femicide is a collective responsibility that transcends borders and boundaries. As we stand united against this egregious violation of human rights, let us amplify our voices, raise awareness, and advocate for change. Together, we can build a future where every woman can live free from fear and violence. It is time to transform our collective outrage into tangible action and create a society that upholds the inherent dignity and worth of every individual.
